Record keeping and documentation for certified organic production will be the focus of a workshop on Tuesday, February 16 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at the South Central Nebraska Resource Conservation and Developmentoffice in Doniphan.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. – refreshments will be provided.  At 10:00 a.m., Tom and Linda Schwarz, who farm near Bertrand, and have been involved in organic production for ten years, will explain how to apply for organic certification and provide helpful tips on how to best organize your organic records.  The Schwarzs will discuss various aspects of Organic System Plans and share ways to develop and maintain effective plans and associated records.

Following a light lunch, Dave Welsch, who has farmed since 1978 and began organic production in 1993, will review the audit trail and documentation needed to achieve and maintain organic certification. The Welsch own and operate West Blue Farm near Milford.

All workshop materials, refreshments and lunch will be provided free of charge.  The workshop is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund.  Plan to attend to learn from these experienced organic producers.
